y garreg: "the rock" A particular quarry term for the raw material, split into workable slabs, the slate slabs then become y garreg.

domen fawr: big tip
crewls: Crewling, the act of transferring a loaded waggon from the tramway to the top of an incline, hitching it usually with two other wagons and sending it down. A highly skilled job, one that needed a good deal of judgement and concentration.
ysbwriel : rubbish, waste rock.
wagan dipio : tip wagon, waste truck.
